Challenge Coins are fully customizable. The obverse (front) is shown with the Rotary emblem surrounded by the Rotary Club name and the Rotary Year. The reverse (back) is shown with the phrase "Service Above Self" surrounded by the key components of The Four-Way Test.

Each Rotarian receives a Rotary Club Challenge Coin. Additional Challenge Coins cost $10.00. The coins will therefore pay for themselves. Rotary Club Members are encouraged to carry their Rotary Club Challenge Coin at all times. A Rotary Club Member may challenge another Club Member with their coin at any time. If the challenged Club Member does not have their Rotary Club Challenge Coin when challenged, they may either: Pay a $5.00 fine at the next Club Meeting Buy the challenging Club Member a drink (if appropriate) In order to encourage Club Members to adopt and participate in this activity, the Club Member making the challenge will not face any penalty for issuing the challenge to another Club Member if the challenged Club Member has their Rotary Club Challenge Coin in their possession at the time of the challenge.
